We started today by visiting the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute (BUEI) where we learned about ways that the ocean was explored in the past as well as exploration being conducted today. A particularly engaging exhibit explained challenges the ocean ecosystem faces. Students were very moved as they learned about poor fishing practices and pollution such as plastics that end up in the ocean in large amounts.
This afternoon we hiked the famous south shore of Bermuda which is arguably one of the most scenic ocean shores in the world. We also snorkeled from the beaches and conducted a study of coastal plants.
This evening we had a lecture about the formation of Bermuda.
