The last two days we spent the morning learning about Coral Reef Ecology and how to identify fish,  In the afternoon we went snorkeling in Mirror Lake to make sure all equipment was working correctly and learn and practice snorkeling skills we will need in Bermuda.

CHECKLIST OF WHAT TO BRING TO BIOS

Please pack your carry on bag with valuables, essential items and snacks that would allow you to snorkel and live ok for a day or so in case of baggage being misplaced. Also, include a black or blue pen in your carryon for filling out Bermuda custom forms.   Your UW camera and netbook should also be carryon.

__     PASSPORT

__ 1 quart ziplock bag with liquids for carryon (less than 4 oz. each)

__    REEF FISH Behavior book, REEF Fish, Creature,& Coral ID books, waterproof ID book, Bermuda Plant Book, Colored Pencils,Yellow data slate, data sheets, and fish ID cards(most of this is shared with your partner), Net book computer(shared with partner).

__     notebooks, pens and pencils( at least three #2)

__     school underwater dive light & C batteries (ONLY TO BE USED IN THE WATER-CAN OVERHEAT AND MAY CAUSE FIRE IN AIR)-BRING EXTRA C BATTERIES

__   dive skin

__     waterproof watch with alarm that we provide (for a pair of students)

__     Underwater camera, desiccant, battery, charger & memory card that we provide (for a pair of students)

­__     2 beach towels at least

__   BLACK OR BLUE PEN IN CARRY ON –for filling out custom papers-they care about the color

__   water bottles or hydration system (2 liter capacity -leave empty)

__     spending money – about $75

__      food for carry on and lunch-we only get dinner our first day

__    Mask, fins and snorkel, Lycra socks.

__   2 LARGE PLASTIC BAGS (GARBAGE BAG) TO SEPARATE WET AND DRY ITEMS IN YOUR BACKPACK

__    2 pair sneakers (or TEVA’s)- water sandal should have a back strap as we will be clamoring over rocks and other rough terrain

__      rain jacket or slicker

__ backpack or daypack for transporting gear: look for packs that have outside straps for compressing pack (these are helpful for carrying flippers)

__ 2 bathing suits at least

__ Hair ties for long hair

__tissues

__alarm to get you up (your phone can do this- phone chargers)

__   sunscreen, hat and cover-ups

__   INSECT REPELLANT

__     jeans, shirts, windbreaker for cool nights or windy boat .

__     sunglasses , eyeglasses or contacts (spare pair; no optician near BIOS)

__   bathrobe and slippers (for possible shared bathroom facilities)

__     personal hygiene needs (toothpaste, shampoo, tampons, etc. – no drugstore nearby)

__      personal first aid (particularly bandaids(some large) & ibuprofin, aspirin, Tylenol, etc.)

__     Dramamine or motion-sickness patches if needed

__     camera

__     pocket flashlight/NOT UW LIGHT (BIOS not well lit at night and good for when we go in caves)- headlamp is best.

  • Prescription Medication – make sure that you pack enough for your visit – you will not be able to ship medication to Bermuda.
