Ava Sargent, a 12th grader is currently taking four classes with VTVLC: AP Psychology, English IV, Geometry, and Forensic Science. However, Sargent has been studying with VTVLC for over three years.

“My favorite course I have taken with VTVLC is either this year’s Forensics or Marine Biology as a freshman,” Sargent said. “I think Biology was my favorite because of my amazing and supporting teacher and just learning about all the underwater life and what it really needs to survive in such harsh conditions.”

Sargent decided to use VTVLC for her high school education after struggling with schooling conditions in the past and feeling a need for greater support.  “My favorite thing about learning with VTVLC is that I have so much help,” Sargent said. “If I have a question, it gets answered relatively quickly, and with my mental health challenges, every single time I have expressed I was struggling, I was told that my mental health was the most important thing and that my classes could wait. That meant so much to me!”

VTVLC has taught Sargent how to balance mental illness and physical illness with her classes. Working with VTVLC support staff, Sargent has learned how better to manage her to-do list and all her obligations. “Having the support team there for me at all times of the day really helped me,” Sargent said.

In particular, Sargent enjoys meeting weekly with 9-12 principal, Jessica Leo. “Thank you to everyone who has been there to help me for the past 3.5 years,” Sargent said. “If you think you have had the same struggles as I did, this is the perfect school. You have plenty of support, more than you thought you ever needed.”
