Q: Can you tell us a little about your background?
A: I earned my Master in Ed from Johnson State after working in the medical lab for many years, I decided to go into teaching.  I taught college in North Carolina for 4 years and moved back to VT.  I taught for 10 years at Brighton Elementary middle school math and science as well as teaching Phlebotomy for CCV.

Q: What is your favorite thing about teaching for VTVLC?
A: My favorite thing about VTVLC is the community of learners and educators we have.

Q: What has been the highlight of your virtual classroom this year so far?
A: The highlight so far this year has been the “sewer lice” demo! The demo is about observations and determining science vs pseudo-science.  It is also a lot of fun!!

Q: What is different about teaching for VTVLC than teaching elsewhere? How do you approach that difference?

One big difference at VTVLC is the inclusiveness of our learning environment. Students feel safe to take risks and go out of their comfort zone because they are in their home comfort zone. All students are accepted for the unique selves and are able to shine without social pressures seen in the brick and mortar classroom.

Q: What do you wish people knew about online learning or VTVLC’s full-time K-8 program?

One thing I wish people knew was that we exist and we are a social community. This is not pandemic learning, we are a school of amazing learners.
