Rolling Enrollment Course Spotlight: Independent Study Option
Independent Study allows grades 9–12 students to propose their own course topic or project, work independently with guidance from a licensed Vermont educator, and earn credit for self-directed learning in subjects not covered by standard offerings. To get started:

- Submit a course proposal for review and approval
- Collaborate with a teacher to set learning goals and deliverables
- Follow a flexible schedule and meet progress milestones
- Receive feedback and a final evaluation
- Available as rolling enrollment courses

A full-time diploma pathway for students in non-operating towns.
VTVLC’s Collaborative Diploma Program (CDP) is designed for students in grades K–12 who live in Vermont towns that do not operate a high school. CDP students complete their education fully online and graduate with a local diploma.
How it works:

- Students enroll full-time at one of our CDP partner schools: Hazen Union School, White River Valley High School, Stockbridge Elementary School, Rochester Elementary School
- All coursework is completed online with VTVLC via a combination of fall/spring and rolling enrollment courses
- Students can take advantage of extracurriculars at their brick-and-mortar CDP school

Program Structure
Course Length: 8–12 weeks
Enrollment: Rolling admissions
Format: Modular, mastery-based learning
Pre-Assessment: Determines required modules & assessments
Credit: Students enroll in full half-credit or one-credit course.
Instruction: Facilitated by Vermont licensed teachers (with OTS)
Eligibility is determined by the student’s sending school.
Credit recovery provides students who previously failed or did not complete a course the opportunity to earn credit by demonstrating mastery of required standards rather than repeating the full course. Students often qualify if they failed a required course, did not complete coursework, demonstrated partial mastery, or need credit to remain on track for graduation.
