Why I Chose VTVLC

I have always been an exceptional student, earning straight-A’s and taking advantage of honors and Advanced Placement options wherever possible. At the beginning of my sophomore year, though, my grades started to slip. I was taking four Advanced Placement classes and two honors classes, but it became difficult to attend all of my classes each day due to medical issues. I knew I could not continue at a brick-and-mortar school and achieve the success I knew I was capable of. I had to make the difficult decision to switch to online school. I worked with my parents, and we weighed out different options until we finally settled on VTVLC.

I had a lot of catching up to do when I started VTVLC, but my teachers and parents helped me figure out how much work I would need to do each day in order to finish in a reasonable and timely manner. My parents helped make sure I stayed up to speed in my classes, as well as supported me in managing the stress that a rigorous schedule can produce. It hasn’t always been easy, but being able to work from anywhere, without exerting as much physical energy, helps greatly with all my health issues and allows me to focus on my studies.

At VTVLC, there are so many course options, many of which allow me to explore my creativity and interests, which helps me to feel engaged and focused. Whereas I used to feel trapped and stifled by traditional schooling, VTVLC makes me feel as if my brain is open and unrestricted. I can be more creative and thoughtful without the rigidity of attending school in a more conventional way. I feel as if I have room to expand and grow both mentally and as a person.

VTVLC offers so many options, not in course offerings, but in clubs as well. There are many different social and world learning opportunities for students at VTVLC. It is such a unique program with so many opportunities that are available to everyone. I started with VTVLC when I felt like I had no other options, and it saved me from having to retake sophomore year, or work endlessly to catch up. I feel that it would have created a deep hole that I would not have been able to get out of. Fortunately, that didn’t come to fruition because of VTVLC.

VTVLC is perfect for students that want to move at a faster pace, want to have more time for other activities, travel often, have to work, or have another set of extraordinary circumstances that are preventing their success in a traditional environment.
