The Vermont Virtual Learning Cooperative works with Vermont schools to faciliate online courses for students statewide. Our goal is to overcome the three most common barriers that prevent students from taking the courses they want or need in schools. These barriers are availability of courses, accessibility to courses and the flexibility of your education. For example, are you interested in taking a course that is not available at your school? VTVLC finds the course you want to take from another Vermont school that offers that course online. Is there a course that you want to take at your school that you cannot access because you are required to take a different class during the same schedule time? VTVLC works with your school to give you access to the courses you want during a time that works for you by offering the course online. All courses offered by VTVLC online are accessible from anywhere, anytime. Whether you learn best at 1 am or 1 pm, at school or at home, your online courses are only a click away.

Is VTVLC accredited?

VTVLC works under a cooperative model. Each course is offered by a Vermont public / approved independent school, each school is accredited independently through (primarily) NEASC. The course curriculum is licensed from Florida Virtual School which is accredited by two major agencies: The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and The Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation.

VTVLC does not currently grant a diploma. Instead, credits are transferred back to the student’s local school and count toward their graduation requirements.

Partner Schools are Vermont schools that provide at least one licensed Vermont teacher to facilitate a VTVLC online course. Students who attend a Partner School are eligible to enroll in our courses at no cost to the student during the regular school year, as approved by the school counselor.

VTVLC “coordinates” student learning through a team approach in conjunction with technology based tools and content.

The team includes the VTVLC Faculty, VTVLC Student Learning Support, School Counselors and Local Student Support.  Every VTVLC course is taught by a highly qualified Vermont licensed instructor — experts in their subject areas. Teachers and students interact regularly through email, telephone conversations, and various synchronous web tools.  The VTVLC Student Learning Support Team is here for you!  We work with everyone involved in the student’s support team to help students accomplish their learning goals.  School counselors are integral in helping students establish their personalized learning plans, which often includes VTVLC courses.  Every partner school should also have local student support to assist students in their learning process.  This may be a school counselor, technology integration specialist, classroom teacher, paraprofessional, librarian or any other school designated person.

Do students get an actual teacher?

Every VTVLC course is taught by a highly qualified Vermont licensed instructor — experts in their subject areas. Teachers and students interact regularly through email, telephone conversations, and various synchronous web tools.  As students work through the modules of a course, they connect with their teachers to take exams online and discussion-based assessments over the phone or video conference. Students do the work at their own pace and on their own time, but are expected to stay on pace.

Teachers are available during scheduled office hours and by appointment. Students are encouraged to contact the teacher when there is a need of any kind. Teachers regularly speak via telephone or video conference with students and their parents.
